TruStage’s VP, Corporate and Legislative Affairs, Alane Dent stopped by the show to share items that should be top of mind legislatively for credit unions in 2026.

Alane talked about the outlook on Congress’ ability to meet that funding deadline in regards to the upcoming CR  (Continuing Resolution), which expires January 30th.

That said, she also addressed the CDFI Fund appropriation and staffing being tied up during the last federal shutdown in October -- and what she anticipates will happen if there is another shutdown in 2026.

Alane commented on the continued pressure that banks are applying to congressional leaders regarding the tax exempt status of credit unions. She explained the current attack(s)/pressures and how they differ from what was experienced earlier in 2025

Lastly, Alane added that if there were to be any action by legislators in regards to the tax exempt status of credit unions, when could we expect to see it?
