PSCU Chief Security Officer Gene Fredricksen joins us to share the results from the first credit union incident response exercise relating to cybersecurity threats. Gene added that PSCU partnered with the National Credit Union Information Sharing & Analysis (NCU-ISAO), U.S. Department of Homeland Security, and NCUA to execute this Virtual Incident Response Table-Top Exercise (VTTX).
The VTTX was broadcasted from the FEMA Emergency Management Institute (EMI) in Emmitsburg, Md., and was televised via live video feed from exercise sites around the country. Exercises were related to various issues surrounding cybersecurity, as participants had the opportunity to consider aspects of cyber preparedness within their credit union. Attendees also participated in breakout sessions to hear best practices learned from peer organizations.
With the Equifax and now Sonic breach still fresh in our minds, this exercise covered a lot of timely ground. Gene added that there will probably be four exercises conducted each year. Stay tuned for the next one around the first part of 2018. Check it out and let us know your thoughts.
