NACUSO's "Next Big Idea" competition has been a credit union industry highlight since its inception four years ago. Some pretty cool ideas judged by some pretty significant business people have percolated to the top and set into action for credit unions' use right away. It's a unique contest that brings new ideas to light from which we all can benefit.

This year's winner was a company called Rate Reset, which is a strategic partner of the MD|DC Credit Union Association. Rate Reset's CEO and Co-founder Keith Kelly joined us to share how his company topped six other competitors with its LoanGen for Auto solution -- a web-based automated loan acquisition tool that allows credit unions to acquire existing auto loans from other financial institutions, enabling credit unions to increase their share of the auto loan market.  It's Rate Rest for Auto features a speedometer-like display that changes to show how much a monthly auto payment will decrease as the consumer adds to the loan term along a sliding scale.

I saw this technology personally at GAC when the Rate Reset folks dropped by the Studio Lounge for a quick demo. It's pretty cool, I must say. Check it out for yourself and let us know what you think.

Just when the EMV retailer liability shift fire has finally started to dim, another EMV deadline looms this October dealing with domestic ATMs. To get better perspective on what this one is all about and provide some best practices on preventing PIN fraud at ATM, we invited TMG's Fraud Prevention Manager Ashley McAlpine.

Ashley enlightens us on the domestic ATM liability shift later this year, as well as what could happen if ATMs miss the deadline this October. We also discussed the best practices for preventing PIN fraud at ATMs for both FIs and consumers.

A really interesting chat on this topic, as we took a deep dive. Check it out and let us know what you think. And we apologize for the shaky connection, but all the content is there. Enjoy!

Small credit unions have been making headlines for quite a while now regarding mergers, regulation overload, occasional mismanagement, etc. Right in the mix of it all has been NCUA Office of Small Credit Union Initiatives Director Bill Myers like an adept, three-ring circus ringmaster. And when Bill recently announced his impending departure from the office, many of us were set back a bit wondering what would become of the shrinking mass of $100 million and below institutions as our industry experiences its continued consolidation.

So we invited Bill on the program to say thank you for his hard work and to discuss what the state of small credit unions is today since he took office back in 2011. In addition, we touched on how vital small credit unions are to our industry, significant changes he has seen in the last five years, what concerns him most about this group right now, and where he sees these CUs in the next five years.

A fascinating chat, as always, with Bill Myers that you won't want to miss. Let us know your thoughts on our conversation, as well.

San Diego is an expensive place to live. With gas prices still exceeding $3 per gallon, average home prices hovering around $480,000, and monthly water bills that dwarf most car payments, many residents in "America's Finest City" live financially on the edge to enjoy wonderful weather, the beach, nearby mountains, and much more. It's for this reason that California Coast Credit Union has instilled a new pay philosophy for its employees called the "Living Wage."

To tell us about the Living Wage, we invited CalCoast's President/CEO Todd Lane on the show. Todd gave us the details on this new philosophy his credit union recently instilled, why they did it, how to get buy in from the Board, a three-step process to come up with this ever-evolving pay scale, benefits to the credit union, how the recent California $15 minimum wage initiative affected this decision, and what advice Todd has for other credit unions considering a similar move.

A fascinating and very timely topic -- and Todd delivers a very compelling message looking out for his employees. This philosophy can also be implemented by any credit union nationwide -- not just the ones located in expensive parts of the country. So check it out and let us know what you think.
