MasterCard
Alright folks, you're gonna need your note pads for this one. In our latest installment of MasterCard's Leadership series, MasterCard Vice President of Global Insights Ted Iacobuzio joins us to talk non-interest income and how your credit union may be missing the mark. One of his strongest statements during this discussion was: "If you [credit unions] want to make money in non-interest income in consumer spending, you have to get back in the game and issue credit cards directly."

Why? Because credit cards are a hot business right now -- not quite like 2001 but getting there (25% more than 2007). And if you want to know how your members are spending and garner all the revenue generated from that spending, then issuing credit cards directly is the way to go.

These facts stemmed from the first part of our conversation on how the economic crises has changed the spending/saving behavior of today's consumers (namely Millennials), as well as the character of the credit card on how it's used today. Super, super interesting stuff here from Ted, who has studied these behaviors for 25 years.

So, again, prepare to take notes to capitalize on your credit union's credit card program now. Enjoy!

Congratulations goes out to the folks at Educators Credit Union for winning CUNA Technology Council's 2015 "Excellence in Technology" award for its "Tech It Up a Notch" event that sparked some pretty innovative tech ideas from its staff. But what exactly is "Tech It Up a Notch" and how did it benefit the credit union?

Well, we invited Educators Credit Union's Mike Mikkelson and Katy McCabe on the show to find out what the event is and how it benefited the credit union -- ultimately winning CUNA Technology Council's coveted award. We also discussed why the credit union came up with this idea and how it worked. To wrap up, Mike and Katy provided plenty of mighty fine advice for other credit unions that may want to host a similar event and come up with some grand ideas on how to better serve their members. Enjoy!

From Herb Wegner Memorial Awards to CUAid.coop to BizKid$ and a million other credit union related initiatives and events in between, The Foundation has been a catalyst for financial wellness in people's lives for three-and-a-half decades. As the philanthropic arm of the industry, The Foundation steers clear of any political issues but is laser focused on anything that supports financial literacy  and financial freedom to credit union members nationwide.

To receive a first-hand perspective of The Foundation's efforts for its 35th anniversary celebration, we invited its Executive Director Gigi Hyland on the show to detail how the organization has evolved over the years. A very enlightening and entertaining talk with Gigi that covers 35 years of good works through finance. Additionally, if you would like to donate and help fulfill the organization's goal of reaching $35,000 by Oct. 31, click here to visit its really cool donation page.

In part 2 of our talk with National Association of State Credit Union Supervisors President and CEO Lucy Ito, we really dig into a couple of our industry's key issues. First up is the ever 'popular' RBC2 decision. Even though our interview occurred just before the decision last week, Lucy still provided NASCUS take on it. Definitely compelling.

We also discussed another controversial topic: marijuana business banking. Lucy provided some extremely insightful thoughts on how credit unions can help serve this trending business -- no matter your perspective. She puts it in perspective quite clearly. And, lastly, we talk about the NASCUS Summit Conference taking place in New Orleans right now loaded with fantastic speakers -- one of which happens to be State Banker Supervisors President and CEO John Ryan. You'll find out why he's there. Enjoy!

The National Association of State Credit Union Supervisors celebrates its 50th anniversary this year and will definitely observe this milestone at its NASCUS Summit next week in New Orleans. What better place to have a party than New Orleans?

So, naturally, we invited NASCUS President and CEO Lucy Ito on the show to discuss many items and issues concerning our industry and her organization. In part 1 of our chat, Lucy discusses the state of the state credit union system -- especially the refreshing relationship between credit unions and regulators. Wait 'til you hear what she has to say here. We also touched on the overhead transfer rate (a.k.a. OTR). And stay tuned next week for part 2 when we talk about RBC2 and marijuana business banking. Enjoy!
