Casey summarized these actions, sharing the difference between reputation and brand:

  5. Establish a Chief Trust Officer
  6. Enhance Social Awareness and Action
  7. Engage the Board about your Reputation

#3085: Why Q3 Credit Union HealthScore Shows Continued Decline in Performance...

Glatt Consulting's Tom Glatt joined us for a livecast to discuss his firm's latest Credit Union HealthScore for Q3 2022. Tom shared with us some expected trends, such as a continued decline in the overall credit union HealthScore (third consecutive quarter). But he also shared an unexpected surprise: membership growth (MG). After seeing two quarters of year-over-year score declines, MG sprang to life in Q3 with a 6.25% score improvement.

The HealthScore itself and the 17 component scores of which it is comprised are a reflection of the average health of the industry based on the health of its parts -- a perspective Tom's firm developed by first scoring the health of each individual credit union. They do not score an aggregated credit union industry balance sheet or income statement.

Other areas we discussed included:
  • Asset growth
  • Earnings
  • Delinquencies and charge offs
  • HealthScore leading credit unions
  • HealthScore enhancements set for 2023

Check it out and let us know your thoughts. And be sure to watch the entire episode below for all the details.

Tim VanTassel, CC Pace President, and John Wyatt, Apple Federal Credit Union Chief Information Officer, stopped by the show to share why its vital for credit unions to take the time to sharpen the proverbial saw of their back office technologies -- especially with the rapid pace of financial technology today.

Both Tim and John talk about what that sharpening of the saw looks like in the back office, as the amount of money that is spent on member-facing, front office bells and whistles seems to increase each year. But don't forget about the back office. They say efficiency is the name of the game here.

Tim and John discussed how there are dozens of initiatives that are member facing -- which is great, but the back office operations and technologies have to be finely tuned, as well, or the cool stuff everybody sees up front won't work to its fullest capacity -- or at all. So it's important to clean up what’s going on behind the scenes, which ultimately enhances the member experience.

Tim and John also address how often a credit union should you look at and give their back office operations a proper tune up, as well as what that looks like from a staffing perspective, too.

It's a topic that isn't discussed enough, but John and Tim take it on with many examples of what Apple is doing. Check it out and let us know your thoughts. And be sure to watch the entire episode below for all the details.

Backbase’s U.S. Vice President, Sales and Professional Services Mike Fife joined us on the show to share his insights on how credit unions are untapped resources for borrowers during recessions. And since there's a possible recession on the horizon, Mike came on the show to provide answers to this very topic.

In particular, Mike explained how credit unions have an outsized opportunity and ability to help smaller communities weather the recession, as well as how the credit union model allows credit unions to fill the gaps left in banking deserts for communities with no brick-and-mortar retail banking options who may feel the sting of recession.

In closing, he addressed how credit unions successfully harnessing the power of technology to keep up with the demands of their members — especially during difficult times.

Check it out and let us know your thoughts. And be sure to watch the entire episode below for all the details.
