Yesterday, WKU administrators and staff gathered with representatives of Abound Credit Union, a leader in financial education, to recognize the financial institution’s support of four areas on campus.

Abound Credit Union made a significant pledge of $105,000 to support:
  • 2023-2025 Personal Finance Summer Camps (Center for Financial Success in the Gordon Ford College of Business)
  • Celebration of the Arts 2023 Title Sponsorship (Kentucky Museum)
  • Textbooks for Troops (Military Student Services)
  • M.A.S.T.E.R. Plan (Housing and Residence Life)

“Each of the programs support our institutional mission to provide access and opportunity, to equip our students for success, to elevate our community and to provide a transformational WKU Experience for our Hilltoppers,” said WKU President Timothy C. Caboni. “We appreciate Abound Credit Union’s understanding of the diverse needs across our community, as well as the key role corporate partners play in fulfilling those needs by strategically sponsoring events and programs.”

The Personal Finance Summer Camp gives area high school students the opportunity to learn about financial literacy through hands-on, engaging activities. The annual Celebration of the Arts exhibition invites South-Central Kentucky artists to have their work shown and judged, providing a vital professional development opportunity as well as community recognition of our region’s artistic talent and diversity.

WKU’s Textbooks for Troops program assists eligible veterans, military students and dependents by loaning textbooks for undergraduate and graduate programs. A WKU tradition since 1993, M.A.S.T.E.R. Plan is designed to help first-year students smoothly transition to life as a Hilltopper. The program, held annually the week before fall classes begin, allows students to experience campus living before their first class.

These programs reflect initiatives that are of particular interest to Ray Springsteen, President/CEO of Abound Credit Union. In particular, Springsteen has actively championed financial literacy and advocated for legislation to require financial education for all high school students in Kentucky.

"Abound is for helping our communities thrive and our not-for-profit structure allows us to put people first. That's why you'll often find us stepping up even as others step back," says Ray Springsteen, President/CEO of Abound Credit Union. "Our partnership with WKU aligns with our mission of making more possible and leading financial education throughout Kentucky. We're very proud of this expanding collaboration in Bowling Green."

“Partnerships like the one we have started, and certainly look to strengthen and continue, with Abound, bring success to both entities and the entire community,” said Amanda Trabue, Vice President for Philanthropy & Alumni Engagement. “I look forward to continuing to find new ways in which we can elevate our community together.”
