Achieva Credit Union partnered with the Hispanic Outreach Center in Tampa Bay to provide students (12 to 17 years old) the financial knowledge to prepare them for the future. During two sessions in July, students learned about the types of bank accounts, opening and managing their accounts, spending, budgeting, credit score, and how to complete a loan application. The Summer Camp ended with a certificate of completion from Achieva Credit Union and an ice cream party. Why is it important for Achieva to ensure every child learns the basics of banking?
In March, Florida passed a financial literacy law, officially titled the “Dorothy L. Hukill Financial Literacy Act,” requiring students entering high school during the 2023-2024 academic year to take a half-credit financial literacy and money management course. Achieva Credit Union has offered financial literacy to students in St. Petersburg, Fla., for the past 20 years, with a full-service branch in Northeast High School.
