Associated Credit Union Launches Federal Employee Relief Loan Program to Support Members Impacted by U.S. Government Shutdown

As the nation endures one of the longest Federal government shutdowns in U.S. history, Associated Credit Union (ACU) is stepping up to assist its members impacted during this time. With thousands of federal employees furloughed and financial challenges rising, ACU has launched the Federal Employee Relief Loan Program, offering a below-market interest rate to provide immediate assistance to members in need during the shutdown

“Our original membership at ACU was Federal employees, so we understand the impact the government shutdown has on them,” said ACU’s Chief Executive Officer, C. Lin Hodges. “We consider it an honor and a privilege to be able to help in a time of real need.”

Members affected by the shutdown can apply for the Federal Employee Relief Loan by calling 770.448.8200, or in person at any of ACU’s 18 branch locations. ACU is offering additional resources, including:
  • Loan Assistance: Members needing help with an existing loan can contact ACU’s Asset Recovery Specialists for flexible support options.
  • Budget Counseling: Certified Credit Union Financial Counselors are available to help members navigate financial challenges and plan for the future.

Lin added, “This initiative arrives as many furloughed workers are missing their first paychecks and might be struggling to cover day-to-day expenses. As member savings dwindle amid the shutdown, our response reflects ACU’s longstanding commitment to serving members through cooperative solutions and compassionate financial support.”

Through these and other initiatives, ACU continues to demonstrate its core values of compassion, cooperation, and community service—ensuring that members never face financial challenges alone.

“This is a situation that is out of our members’ control,” said ACU’s Executive Vice President of Lending, Chad Evans. “As a cooperative, we believe it’s ACU’s duty to assist those facing temporary hardship with the resources we have available. Put simply, it’s the right thing to do.”

Headquartered in Peachtree Corners, ACU is the sixth-largest credit union in Georgia, with branches across the state to serve its more than 156,000 members. Providing low-cost services for 95 years, the non-profit organization is ranked as one of the top 150 credit unions in the country.
