Credit Unions Unite for CU in the Community: A Day of Service with Rebuilding Together OKC11/3/2025 On November 5, 2025, ten Oklahoma credit unions will join forces for CU in the Community, a powerful day of service rooted in the cooperative principle of “people helping people.” This initiative brings credit unions together to uplift and strengthen the communities they serve.
In a true spirit of collaboration, credit unions are partnering with Rebuilding Together OKC, a nonprofit dedicated to revitalizing homes for low-income seniors. This partnership amplifies the shared mission of fostering community well-being and demonstrates the strength of cooperative efforts. The participating credit unions are both volunteering their time and donating funds to support Rebuilding Together OKC’s home repair projects, ensuring these initiatives have the resources and manpower needed for meaningful impact. Credit union employee volunteers will tackle home repairs for a senior veteran. These efforts address critical needs and create lasting home improvements, showcasing the heart of the credit union movement: working together to make a difference beyond financial services. “For credit unions, community and cooperation are part of who we are. CU in the Community demonstrates the good things we can accomplish when we work together for Rebuilding Together OKC and the people of Oklahoma,” said Larry Shropshire, President/CEO of Communication Federal Credit Union. Each year, CU in the Community will partner with a different nonprofit to spotlight volunteerism and highlight the unique contributions credit unions bring to communities. “CU in the Community is a testament to the cooperative values that define credit unions,” said Jeff Carpenter, President and CEO of WEOKIE Federal Credit Union. “By partnering with Rebuilding Together OKC this year, we’re not just volunteering—we’re building a stronger community through shared purpose and collective action.”
