As federal changes to the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) begin impacting food access nationwide, Ent Credit Union joined Care and Share Food Bank for Southern Colorado and Food Bank of the Rockies on Tuesday, Sept. 9, to mark Hunger Action Day with symbolic check presentations in volunteer-filled warehouses. The events, held during Hunger Action Month, celebrated more than just a financial gift, they marked the beginning of multi-year partnerships rooted in shared values and a commitment to community resilience. The timing is critical. Changes to SNAP, enacted as part of recent federal tax legislation, began taking effect on Sept. 1, 2025, impacting millions of Americans nationwide. In Colorado, more than 615,000 residents rely on SNAP benefits, according to the Colorado Department of Human Services. Feeding America reports that 744,950 people in Colorado face hunger, including 172,540 children. With food prices rising and federal support shifting, food banks are bracing for increased demand and deeper gaps in access. “Financial health begins with basic needs, and food is one of the most fundamental,” said Annie Snead, Ent Credit Union executive director of philanthropy and community relations. “This isn’t just about opening our checkbook, it’s about showing up, listening, and investing in long-term solutions alongside our partners to meet a pressing community need.” Ent’s 2025 support for hunger relief has reached nearly $190,000 to date, spanning college pantries, weekend meal programs, and grassroots initiatives across Colorado. In addition to multi-year commitments to Care and Share and Food Bank of the Rockies, Ent is proud to support Aims Community College, Brent Eley Foundation, Food to Power, Help & Hope Center, Loveland’s Community Kitchen, Metropolitan State University of Denver, The Pantry of Fremont, Project Angel Heart, Pueblo Community College, and the University of Colorado Colorado Springs. These partnerships reflect a strategic, statewide approach to addressing food insecurity. Tuesday’s announcement also highlights the strong alignment between Ent and Wings Credit Unions, as the two organizations prepare for a merger of equals anticipated in 2026. As part of Hunger Action Month, Wings Financial Foundation is making a similar, significant multi-year community commitment in Minnesota, reflecting the shared values of both organizations. This unified commitment to fighting hunger in our communities is the first example of how Ent and Wings will work together to expand its community impact now and into the future.
