Evergreen Credit Union hit the slopes and participated in Downhill 24, the annual 24-hour ski-a-thon fundraiser benefiting WinterKids. The team-based endurance event ran from 8:00 p.m. on February 26 through 8:00 p.m. on February 27 at Sugarloaf Mountain.

Downhill 24 brought together skiers and snowboarders from across the region to raise funds that help WinterKids provide Maine children with opportunities to get outside, stay active, and build confidence through outdoor winter experiences.

Participants skied through the night and into the following day, demonstrating endurance, teamwork, and a shared commitment to supporting youth during Maine’s long winter months.

Evergreen Credit Union participated as an honorary team. The Evergreen fundraising team surpassed its initial goal, raising more than $1,000 ahead of the 24-hour challenge, reflecting strong community engagement around the effort.

Among the Evergreen skiers was Emma Pierce, a former WinterKids participant who credited the nonprofit with introducing her to skiing and fostering her love for winter in Maine.

“This event comes full circle,” said Pierce. “WinterKids helped spark my confidence outdoors when I was young, and being able to give back now through Evergreen makes this experience especially meaningful.”

Evergreen Credit Union President and CEO Jason Lindstrom also took part in the 24-hour challenge alongside team members, underscoring the organization’s hands-on approach to community involvement.

“At Evergreen, supporting organizations like WinterKids is about investing in the long-term health and resilience of Maine communities,” said Lindstrom.“

Downhill 24 is a powerful example of how partnership and participation can open doors for the next generation.

”The collaboration reflected a shared mission to keep Maine youth active, connected, and engaged during the colder months while encouraging year-round outdoor learning and personal growth.

Evergreen Credit Union partners with more than 20 local organizations across Southern Maine, supporting initiatives focused on financial literacy, entrepreneurship, education, sports, the arts, conservation, and overall community well-being.

Downhill 24 is about more than skiing. It is an investment in ensuring Maine children have access to experiences that build resilience, confidence, and a lifelong appreciation for the outdoors.
