Great Lakes Credit Union continues to embrace its Banking for a Greater Good philosophy by supporting Giving Tuesday, a day that since its inception in 2012 has grown into a global movement of generosity and building a better world.

By encouraging members of the community to donate to the GLCU Foundation for Financial Empowerment, the charitable and volunteer arm of GLCU, the credit union aims to affect positive change in Chicagoland communities. The mission of the GLCU Foundation is to make a meaningful difference by financially empowering everyone, regardless of socioeconomic status while giving back to the communities it serves.

From facilitating financial education events for youth as well as first-time homebuyers and hosting financial workshops and educational scholarships, to volunteering at food banks, book distribution centers and cleaning up parks, the GLCU Foundation is committed to building the financial and environmental well-being for our neighbors in local communities.

The GLCU Foundation’s impact on community members has been nothing short of transformative. It has empowered individuals to build lasting financial security. Click here to see how a Chicago resident realized her lifelong dream of homeownership – an opportunity that once felt out of reach but became a reality.

When community members donate to the GLCU Foundation, they are helping someone in need, and every dollar makes an impact:
  • $50 = Group education session for one community partner on topics such as renters' rights or dealing with debt
  • $100 = Application assistance for emergency programs such as Court Based Rental Assistance
  • $150 = Time needed to assist a consumer in applying for mortgage assistance
  • $250 = One-on-one pre-purchase homeownership counseling for one household
  • $500 = A first-time homebuyer seminar for 10 attendees

“The GLCU Foundation for Financial Empowerment is deeply grateful to have you join us on this meaningful journey to uplift and empower families within our community,” said Matthew Rizzie, Executive Director of the GLCU Foundation. “Your generous contributions make it possible for us to provide life-changing education, compassionate counseling, and valuable scholarships that help families thrive. Together, we are planting seeds of hope, strengthening neighborhoods, and creating lasting positive change in the communities we proudly serve.”
