HFS Federal Credit Union’s commitment to people helping people extends to every milestone in their members’ lives, big or small. This includes offering solutions to the ever-increasing cost of higher education and the challenges students face in acquiring the necessary funds for college expenses. Since 2012, HFS has helped to relieve some of the financial stress that comes with pursuing a college degree by awarding over 130 scholarships to student members totaling over $355,000. Previous recipients have returned to the Big Island and serve as positive contributors and leaders in our community. Applications for the 2026 HFS Scholarship Program are now being accepted online from current Big Island high school seniors in the graduating class of 2026 and existing college students. This year, the Credit Union will be awarding a total of $60,000 to 20 qualified applicants—ten (10) to graduating Big Island high school seniors and ten (10) to current college students. Each will receive a $3,000 scholarship for the 2026-2027 academic year. Student members of HFS pursuing higher education full-time at an accredited 2- or 4-year Vocational-Technical School, College, or University in the 2026-2027 academic year are eligible to apply. Recipients will be selected based on a variety of criteria, including academic performance, achievements, and community service. Prior scholarship recipients are ineligible. For a complete list of requirements and to apply, students may visit hfsfcu.org or inquire with their high school counselors. Completed applications with supporting documents must be submitted online no later than Saturday, February 28, 2026. For more information about HFS FCU and additional eligibility criteria, contact the Credit Union at (808) 930-1400, visit www.hfsfcu.org or stop by any of our branches in Hilo, Kea’au, Prince Kuhio Plaza, Honoka’a, Waimea or Kona.
