Life Over Debt (LOD), the first national program designed to help credit union members pause loan payments and interest during cancer treatment, has received a Gold Award in the 5th Annual Anthem Awards, which honor the world’s most purpose-driven projects in health, humanitarian action, and social impact.

The Cancer Care Program at New Orleans Firemen’s Federal Credit Union (NOFFCU), built on the Life Over Debt model, received a Silver Award for its exceptional local delivery of this mission, offering debt relief, financial counseling, and emergency support to members fighting serious illness.

Life Over Debt and NOFFCU's Cancer Care Program were selected from over 2,000 submissions from 42 countries.

Created by speaker and storyteller Andy Janning, Life Over Debt partners with credit unions across America to deliver meaningful relief from the financial crisis that too often accompanies a cancer diagnosis.

"I'm grateful for this recognition," said Janning, "and for the credit unions whose commitment to 'People Helping People' is bringing real compassion to families enduring some of the hardest days of their lives."

The Anthem Awards are presented by the International Academy of Digital Arts & Sciences, the same organization behind The Webby Awards, and highlights work that moves humanity forward.

Tonight, Life Over Debt and NOFFCU will be honored in New York City alongside other notables like Katie Couric and the Colorectal Cancer Alliance, Andrew Garfield and Sesame Workshop, Clinton Global Initiative, Google, the National Geographic Society, Paramount Pictures, The Daily Show, UNICEF US, World Wildlife Fund, and The Museum of Modern Art.
