Serve Credit Union is proud to mark 95 years of cooperative values, trusted guidance, and a long-standing dedication to serving those who serve their communities.

Founded in 1931 as the Des Moines Police Officers Credit Union, the organization was created to provide reliable, affordable financial solutions for local law enforcement officers and their families. Over time, they have expanded their reach and offerings while staying true to their original mission.

Today, they serve an exclusive membership that includes public safety professionals, government employees, educators, healthcare workers, and others whose work strengthens Iowa communities. Their growth has been guided by steady development and strategic partnerships. In 2017, the organization rebranded as Serve Credit Union, adopting a name that reflects their mission and commitment to serving a wider community.

Serve Credit Union will celebrate throughout the year with employees and members, marking the 95th milestone with special activities and events.

This year also marks the fifth year of the Blue Shoe Box program, a youth-focused initiative, inspired by their roots, that teaches money management skills. Designed for participants ages 0 to 17, the program delivers annual literacy boxes tailored to age and life stage. Each April, during Financial Literacy Youth Month, young participants are invited to engage in educational activities, receive resources and credit union swag, and gain confidence in managing money.

“This anniversary is a chance to look ahead as much as it is to reflect on where we came from,” said Jami Weems, CEO of Serve Credit Union. “It’s an opportunity to celebrate the people and programs that have shaped our story while focusing on the ways we can continue supporting our members and communities in the years ahead.”

Looking ahead, Serve Credit Union will continue building on the values that have guided them for nearly a century.
