Serve Credit Union, a financial cooperative founded in the “people helping people” spirit in 1931, recently made visits to several first responder organizations to help share financial literacy information and provide resources for their members.

Serve team members visited the Iowa Law Enforcement Academy, which is made of law enforcement employees from around Iowa, along with the Hero Academy, a week-long camp put on by the Des Moines Police Department, the Des Moines Fire Department and the Iowa National Guard for females in their late teens who are exploring a career in public safety.

During both visits, the credit union sponsored a meal and shared financial literacy information through a crash course in their financial wellness program called “Membership Academy.” This program strives to identify member’s goals and discover ways to improve and maintain different elements that contribute to their overall financial wellness. Serve CU’s Financial Responders guide with passion and commitment, using an interactive education center and their own benefits and solutions to help reach and celebrate their wins.

“These groups are in a stage of life where they are making big changes and entering a new chapter, and we want to thank them in advance for their service and help provide them with free financial literacy tools that can help them make the most out of their careers,” said Hayley Vanderpool, Marketing and Member Events Coordinator at Serve Credit Union. “The Membership Academy is available to all our members, no matter their occupation. But it was important to us to extend this benefit to those on the front line, because if they are overwhelmed by their finances while on the job, they’re not at their best to protect themselves and serve our communities. True to our Member Academy motto, when it comes to your finances, we want to be first on scene.”

Serve Credit Union serves those who serve the community and their families, including public servants like USDA employees, teachers, police officers, first responders like firefighters, correctional officers, and EMTs. Read more about Serve and its unique membership at https://www.servecu.org/.
