Animals, children, and tons of fun, oh my! Alaska USA Kids Day brought more than 3,500 people to the Alaska Zoo last Saturday for a fun-filled family day. Kids aged three to 17 received free entrance to the zoo and the opportunity to partake in various activities including animal tattoos, a prize wheel, a photo booth, and animal enrichment. “Kids Day is a cherished event at Alaska USA as we get to see the tangible impact this event has on our community, especially for those where zoo entrance fees might be challenging. This event also provides an opportunity for our employees to volunteer and engage with the community,” said Dan McCue, Senior Vice President of Corporate Relations at Alaska USA. With a consistent entrance line, Kids Day attendees were eager to get out in the community and enjoy a springtime day at the zoo. From lots of smiles to alpaca kisses, attendees were glad to be in person again as this was the first time since 2019 that Kids Day was held in person due to COVID-19. “My family loves coming to Kids Day every year as it’s quality time well spent with the community at one of our favorite places to bring the kids. And let’s be honest, the zoo is also enjoyable for big kids like me,” said Josh Johnston, community member and Alaska USA employee. Kids Day is held every April to bring the community together and to welcome springtime to Anchorage.

All funds raised will support Carilion Children’s Hospital located in Roanoke, Virginia. The foundation’s initial goal was to raise $40,000 for the Children’s Miracle Network Hospital, but thanks to the support from sponsors, golfers and ValleyStar team members, they have exceeded the goal! “I didn’t know what to expect since we have not been able to host the tournament in over two years, but everyone has been incredibly supportive in our efforts,” said Greta Kidd, Executive Director of the ValleyStar RISE Foundation. “Since we have surpassed our goal of $40,000 with five days left until we gather at Chatmoss, we’ve decided to set a new goal of $48,000 in hopes of having a greater collective impact.” ValleyStar Credit Union’s team members have played a huge role in raising awareness about the importance of Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals when engaging with members and when out in the community. Both morning and afternoon flights for The Big Tee Off golf tournament for Children’s Miracle Network are currently sold out. |
