Jack talks about what this process was like, why they did it, what message it sends to its clients and future clients, and their goals for the rebranding effort.

In addition, Jack shares his thoughts on why the industry never really saw the delinquency tidal wave that many predicted early on in the pandemic.

The pandemic has caused businesses to either speed up inevitable change or turn on a dime to maintain operations at a high level. Rivermark Community Credit Union located in Beaverton, OR, did just that when it recently sold one of its corporate office buildings as a result of employees' remote working migration.

Cheryl McCarthy, Vice President Employee Experience, Rivermark Community Credit Union, joined us on the show to share the reasons behind this move, as well as how the credit union's union's work-from-home model is helping make it an attractive place to work -- which is a huge plus in today's labor market.

Cheryl said the selling of their corporate office building allowed the credit union to further support its hybrid workforce to meet the growing needs of its membership. Additionally, she explained that this office space consolidation was going to happen sooner or later. But the pandemic, like most everything, helped it happen sooner.

Being a progressive, forward-thinking credit union, Cheryl says that they were early adopters of video technology and had this type of technology already in place prior to the pandemic. So they were ready to go when COVID shut things down. They also invested heavily in its mobile banking app, experimented with branch lockers, and provided more self-service options for members to access the credit union remotely.

Fascinating conversation with Cheryl on a trend that's occurring in many industries worldwide. Check it out and let us know your thoughts. And be sure to watch the entire episode for all the details.

Bankjoy
Digital banking provider Bankjoy recently launched its business banking platform, empowering its credit unions with superior tools to help attract and drive loyalty among small businesses within their communities.

To get the details on this launch and why Bankjoy developed this platform, we invited Bankjoy's Mike Brown on the show. Mike discussed the strong need for intuitive, modern digital tools for small businesses. In fact, the industry has seen an uptick in new offerings as business owners and entrepreneurs increasingly expect the same digital conveniences they have come to crave as consumers.

These new services are emerging also to support small businesses as they continue to recover from setbacks experienced during the pandemic. According to recent surveys, 60% of small businesses say they are still struggling to pay business-related expenses, and roughly a quarter reported struggling to pay down loans or debt (26%), bills (25%), rent (25%) and employee wages (24%).

According to Mike, Bankjoy’s latest business banking platform equips credit unions with a modern platform that drives loyalty among business members. Engineered by credit union executives and built specifically for community financial institutions, the platform’s Invoicing, Payroll, Company Formation, Wire Transfers and Entitlements features, combined with a superior UX, helps businesses efficiently and effectively manage their finances. Businesses save time on the most mundane tasks and achieve business goals faster.

Check it out and let us know your thoughts.

Filene Research Institute Research Director Paul Dionne stopped by the show to share key takeaways from one of the organization's latest reports: “Overdraft Protection Programs: Credit Union Best Practices.” (available to everyone)

Paul discussed how some credit unions are reevaluating their overdraft protection programs due to pandemic-related concerns bringing on new financial burdens. Because of what has transpired the last couple of years, many credit unions -- and large banks -- are looking at this fee generator a bit differently and coming up with creative ways to work with members in this area.

Paul addressed that eliminating these fees may not be for all credit unions. But, again, some creative best practices are percolating to the surface that will surely spark new ideas.

A fascinating and timely report from the fine folks at Filene and Paul provides many of the details, which will pave the way for more innovative ideas for credit unions. Check it out and let us know your thoughts. And be sure to watch the entire interview below for all the details.

Lastly, Filene will be hosting a webinar on this topic February 17 entitled: "So you want to talk about… Overdraft Protection Program Opportunities." Go sign up and check it out.
