#254: Getting a 2014 'CU Reality Check' with NJCUL's Greg Michlig...

2/28/2014

Looking for a show that's fluff-free and tells it like it is with no sugar coating? Then the New Jersey Credit Union League's "Credit Union Reality Check" show is for you. This edgy conference is for folks who like to be challenged and given strong content that can be applied right away at their credit unions.

To get a closer look at this conference and why it's so "in your face," we invited New Jersey Credit Union League's President and CEO Greg Michlig on the show. Greg provides us with a rundown on the all-star speaker line up for 2014 -- and why each presenter was chosen along with what they will contribute.

If you've never been to this conference before, you should consider checking it out. It's different. It will help eject you from your CU silo and get a clear look on what credit unions need to do to enhance their success. Enjoy!

#253: What do assessments, the Target breach, and John Wayne have in common? NCUA's Debbie Matz tells all...

2/24/2014

Confused with the headline? Hold your horses. Our recent visit with NCUA's Chairman Debbie Matz will clear things up pretty quickly for you, as we discuss the latest topics on NCUA's itinerary. Some of the items we discussed included NCUA's JP Morgan settlement and what it means for future assessments to credit unions. We also discussed the Target breach and how to prepare for future cyber-attacks. In addition, Debbie touched on interest rate risks and how credit unions can mitigate that issue. And, lastly, you're probably wondering how John Wayne fits in here. Well, you'll just have to watch the video to find out. Enjoy!

#252: Prepping for America Saves and Military Saves Week -- along with a quick take on MyCreditUnion.gov -- with NCUA's Gail Laster...

2/20/2014

Any time we can talk about saving anything, that's usually a good thing. In this instance we are talking with NCUA's Director of the Office of Consumer Protection Gail Laster about American Saves and Military Saves Week -- which is next week (Feb. 24 - Mar. 1). Gail tells us the connection between this week-long event and NCUA -- along with NCUA's participation in promoting these initiatives.

We also talk about the status of NCUA's MyCreditUnion.gov website, as well as PocketCents.com -- a site dedicated to helping Youth, Tweens and Teens, Young Adults, Parents and Educators, Families, Seniors, and Service members learn how to make smarter financial decisions for a stronger, brighter future.

That's just scratching the surface of this talk with Gail. We also touched on fair lending examination for 2014, Dodd-Frank mortgage and remittance rules, and HMDA reporting requirements. Certainly a lot to cover in this episode. So sit back and enjoy -- and don't forget to help celebrate America Saves and Military Saves Week!
