#296: How mobile retail offers can make CUs mighty profitable and very relevant -- with Relevant Solutions James Peil...

7/31/2014

Want to find out how your credit union can:
• Provide a free app to your members and the community with 1000’s of mobile ready offers from both national and local merchants.
• Generate fee income from both national and local merchants every time a member or non-member saves, shops and shares locally.
• Use mobile savings content to turn your members into your greatest brand referral partner.
• Provide the local business community the most effective mobile marketing platform with your credit union's brand messaging at the center of those savings.

If so, you're in the right place because we invited Relevant Solutions James Peil on the program to discuss how your credit union can profit from the items listed above by monetizing your mobile app and supporting your local retailers at the same time. This makes your credit union quite relevant to your members, who, in turn, will save on their retail purchases.

Find out more in our chat with James and let us know what you think and how your credit union can benefit. Enjoy!

#295: Tackling topics other events won't touch at the 2014 CU Water Cooler Symposium...

7/30/2014

Would your credit union conference invite a banker to give a presentation? CU Water Cooler Symposium did.
Would your conference discuss a proposed CU marketing campaign inappropriately named "Thrust"? CU Water Cooler Symposium did.
Would your credit union conference condone a money dance? CU Water Cooler Symposium did.

As you can tell, CU Water Cooler Symposium isn't your run-of-the-mill-vendor-expo-break-out-session-golf-outing conference. It's quite different. In fact, the two creators, 6th Story's Matt Davis and Currency Marketing's Tim McAlpine, have gone as far as calling it an "unconference" -- for good reason.

Sure, credit union folks gather and confer at this event each year -- five years running now (Sept. 11-12, Austin, TX). But they not only network, they challenge the status quo with new ideas, fresh thinking, and many times intense debate about where the industry is headed. As I stated in the opening, Matt and Tim even invited a banker to present a couple years back and you could hear a pin drop in the room as he was talking. An "enlightening" experience for many indeed.

And that's the thing about the Symposium, outsiders are purposely brought inside our CU silo to help us break out of it. Tim and Matt are well aware that you don't grow unless you're a little uncomfortable being pushed from your happy place in credit union land. Looking at how other organizations in other industries operate can only open the shades that much more for us to adopt what works and what doesn't -- and that's a mighty good thing.

So sit back, relax, and listen to Tim and Matt as they explain why they intentionally created a challenging environment for attendees to writhe, wriggle, and giggle that ultimately fosters their professional growth. A plus for credit unions for sure. The funny thing is, just about everybody who has been to this unconference wants to come back for more envelope pushing. So c'mon.

Note: CUbroadcast viewers that are credit union employees qualify for a special discount for the CU Water Cooler Symposium! Go to cuwatercooler.com/symposium/ and in the form part way down the page enter cubroadcast in the promotion code field and you will receive a $200 discount bring the price down to $329.

So watch, register, and attend. You won't be same afterward. Enjoy!

#294: How to boost your lending at the touch of a button with CUneXus Dave Buerger...

7/23/2014

Lending is the backbone of the FI industry. So anytime somebody can make this process easier and quicker, there are mass quantities of banks and credit unions eager to jump on board. Well, CUneXus' Dave Buerger may have the next hot lending technology on the market today for credit unions. Literally, if a member is pre-approved for a loan, all they have to do is hit a button and they have instant access to the funds. That simple.

Of course, there's a bit more to it than that, so we invited Dave on the program to give us all the details. The more Dave talked, however, the more this online and mobile technology seems like a no-brainer for credit unions to make the entire lending process a snap for their members. Check it out and let us know what you think. Is Dave on to something here? We think so. Enjoy!

#293: How CUES Next Top Credit Union Exec competition makes the CU industry younger and better...

7/21/2014

It's that time of year again as CUES 2014 Next Top Credit Union Exec competition is in full swing. So we invited the competition's creator, Currency Marketing's Tim McAlpine, and last year's winner, Northwest Credit Union Association's Amanda Brenneman-Brown, on the show to give us the inside scoop on why this competition has grown into quite an important, annual event: to keep this industry young for a prosperous future.

Tim explains how the NTCUE, now in its fifth year, came to be and what its goals are. He also added that, with today's mass exodus of CU CEOs, now is a prime time for young professionals to move up the ladder and make a difference. Amanda discussed how her "network exploded" and the numerous career benefits ($20K in benefits!) she has already experienced since last year's win.

Based on our chat with Amanda and Tim, any young professional looking for a leg up in their career would be remiss to pass up this competition's experience and benefits. Enjoy the show -- and don't forget to vote!

#292: Why fun financial planning is mighty fine news for your CU -- with FlexScore's Jason Gordo...

7/17/2014

Almost a year and 100 episodes ago (#190) we had Mr. Jason Gordo on the show discussing his FlexScore financial planning system for consumers. Jason had succeeded in turning a rather mundane, yet necessary, task into a "gamified" experience for the rest of us. He made it fun to get financially fit.

Now he's taken FlexScore to the next level with FlexScore Pro, targeting financial institutions and advisory firms -- yes, that means you credit unions -- to help their clientele/customers/members/etc. A credit union armed with FlexScore Pro can offer its members a highly engaging means to gain financial freedom, which is a huge value add for any FI.

So we invited Jason back on the show to give us the lowdown on his new Pro version that seems to be a grand opportunity for credit unions to make themselves that much more relevant and valuable to their members -- and have a bit of fun to boot. Many thanks for Jason being on the show and let us know what you're doing at your credit union to make financial planning a positively pleasant experience.
