Silvur retirement app
Silvur had a very good week in Las Vegas last month. No, there weren't jackpots of the gambling kind -- just a couple of stellar showings at industry competitions, as the retirement navigation app received runner-up position at NACUSO's 2021 Next Big Idea competition and followed it up a day later with a Best of Show win at the 2021 VentureTech .

To discover why Silvur excelled in these two competitions, we invited fintech's Founder/CEO Rhian Horgan and Curql's President/CEO Nick Evens, who also founded and heads up VentureTech, on the show.

Rhian shared how Silvur works and what sparked this retirement-made-simple idea -- which is a wonderful story by itself. Nick joined in to discuss his many takeaways from this year's VentureTech and why he believes Silvur performed so well those few days in October.

But this is just the beginning for this multi-award-winning app, helping boomers create a better retirement plan with a retirement school, retirement score, tools and calculators, Social Security and Medicare ebooks, and much, much more.  This app looks to help credit unions attract and deepen their relationships with the over 50 crowd, while helping the younger generations plan for retirement in a more simplified fashion.

As for this year's VentureTech, a huge success for them, as well. The event attracted 48 credit unions, three corporates, 21 CUSOs, 17 leagues and league service corporations, and five venture capital firms.

Fourteen fintechs made their pitches over two days, in addition to nine companies that are part of the Curql Fund portfolio, including Payrailz, Zest AI, Clutch, Eltropy, Illuma Labs, MotoRefi, Nymbus, Posh and Defense Storm.

This is nothing but great news for credit unions -- especially in the fintech sector. Check it out and let us know your thoughts. And be sure to watch the entire episode with Rhian and Nick below for all the details.

CU NextGen's Vinod Tharakan and Kent Zimmer joined us on the show to share their insights on the top technical issues that face credit unions today. One of the bigger ones they focused on was automation -- especially managing the myriad of vendors that serve credit unions worldwide.

Vinod and Kent talk about how these issues hold back credit unions from maximizing their performance to better serve members in an ever-changing fintech world. They answer these issues with remedies that can turn this tide -- and even avoiding many of these issues altogether.

Allegacy Federal Credit Union’s COO Ashley Kohlrus and AVP of Digital Banking Treva Loyd stopped by the show to share their credit union's new collection of digital offerings they are now providing their members. Two of the cooler ones include palm vein authentication and a digital chat assistant named "Welby."

In addition to Welby and palm authentication, Allegacy implemented Amazon Alexa voice and smartwatch banking apps.

Ashley and Treva explain the reasoning behind these launches to boost security and convenience for their members -- which are both necessities in today's financial services environment. They also talked about member feedback since launching these offerings.

Envisant
LSC (now Envisant) President Libby Calderone joined us on the show to share the behind-the-scenes story of their new name, as LSC has become Envisant

Libby talked about why the name change and it's mostly a Google thing. She explains. And she shares the meaning behind the name: Envisant starts with ‘envis-‘ the root of envision, which means ‘the cause to see.’ The suffix ‘-ant’ is ‘one who performs a specific action,’ such as a consultant. Put the two together and you have a consultant that can envision or see to help resolve issues.

In addition to the name change, the Envisant team created a new website, as well as new design elements introduced with Envisant will eventually show up across ICUS and ICUL.

Very exciting and it's always fascinating the story behind rebrands. Check it out and let us know your thoughts. And be sure to watch the entire interview below for all the details.
