Unitus Community Credit Union recently won CUNA Technology Council's Excellence in Technology Award for its sales and service referral solution it created in-house. Dubbed "The Hub," this solution aimed to improve the credit union's sales tracking process that had many manual components with dependencies on Excel spreadsheets and easily lose-able pieces of paper. Suffice to say, it was a tedious, old, and risky task that needed changing ASAP.

So we invited Unitus Community's Business Applications Manager Gary Coates on the show to show us how he and his team streamlined this process and improved the experience for members and staff. After The Hub was implemented, Unitus Community was able to incorporate better marketing campaigns, improve sales reporting and experienced improvements in their sales and service performance -- and win an award to boot. Enjoy!

Gary also said that anybody who wants to
know more details about The Hub can email him at their convenience.

We all know how important advocacy is in our industry -- especially when it comes to keeping our representatives well versed of what credit unions are doing for consumers these days. Nobody knows that better than League of Southeastern Credit Unions Senior Vice President Jared Ross. Jared's "lobbying" efforts has earned him the latest Credit Union Times Trailblazer 40 Below award.

So naturally, we invited League of Southeastern Credit Unions' Senior Vice President Jared Ross to come on the show and divulge his advocacy efforts -- of which he says is, well, a process. In this chat, he talks about some of his lobbying practices, such as helping credit unions not becoming irrelevant, building a foundation of communication and education, and to keep looking at ourselves.

You'll see what it all means during our candid conversation. We also touch on some of his advocacy successes and how credit unions can keep regulations from crushing their innovation. Check it out and enjoy!

CUSO Financial Services President Valorie Seyfert visits us to discuss the top three technologies that are changing the face of credit unions today. We also touch on how CUs can keep pace with the rapid tech changes, advice for CUs that aren't quite up to par with their tech, and who's more important today -- the CFO or the CTO? A great chat with Valorie on some hot issues. Don't miss it!

And, also, there were a couple Skype freezes in this episode, so we inserted a screenshot of CUSO Financial Services website for the duration of the freeze. People's faces look funny when they freeze in mid-discussion. We don't like doing that to our guests. So enjoy the website screenshots of CUSO Financial Services and thank you for understanding.

#478: NAFCU's Carrie Hunt Addresses the Long Overdue Data Security Act of 2015...

Sometimes our Federal government moves as fast as a napping snail on certain items. Other times it happens to run at a proper pace. In the instance of consumer data security, it should be running more like the Road Runner on Red Bull. In other words, establishing a technology standard to ensure our data (especially financial) is protected by both FIs and retailers can't happen soon enough -- which brings us to the Data Security Act of 2015.

To get the current status of this legislation, we invited NAFCU Senior Vice President of Government Affairs and General Counsel Carrie Hunt on the show. Carrie fills us in on the significance of the Data Security Act, why it's so overdue, and when will it become a reality for all of us. In addition, she answers how credit unions and the industry can keep pace with the changing technology to quell fraud, along with how flexible laws can reflect those future changes. Check it out and let us know what you're doing to keep fraudsters at bay.
