Kristie Hartmann, VP of Executive Benefits at TriscendNP, stopped by the Studio Lounge to discuss the crucial nature of doing executive benefits right and doing them well.

Some of the items we talked about related to the topic included:
  • 20 years since increased regulations in this area – new opportunities?
  • What changed in the past 5 years with the interest market?
  • Insurance carrier developments – business changes have had an impact on plans.  How have these changes impacted credit unions?
  • How should credit unions address liquidity concerns with new plans?
  • Regulatory components regarding state/federal chartered credit unions. How does it affect them?
  • Concentration risk limitations? How does this impact small versus large credit unions?
  • Why did TriscendNP develop an executive benefit CUSO?

Check it out and let us know your thoughts. And be sure to watch all our Studio Lounge interviews from the 2024 CUES Symposium.

Tom Sievewright, Director, Executive Benefits at ALM First, and Emily Hollis, CEO of ALM First, joined us in the Studio Lounge to discuss and introduce the organization's newest subsidiary: ALM First Executive Benefits, which helps credit unions compete for today's shrinking pool of C-suite talent.

Emily and Tom shared why ALM First Executive Benefits was launched and what it entails for credit unions, as they look to attract and retain top executive talent in today's highly competitive landscape.

In addition, they talked about specific challenges or trends in todays executive benefits environment, as well as their approach's difference from other providers -- and what should credit unions keep in mind as they analyze their options.

Check it out and let us know your thoughts. And be sure to watch all our Studio Lounge interviews from the 2024 CUES Symposium.

Darlene Dumont, PhD, LSSBB, Director, Organizational Development Services at DDJ Myers, stopped by the Studio Lounge to discuss the significance of strategic organization design and development at today's credit unions.

Specifically, Darlene talked about how a credit union's foundation—its reason for existence—drives actions, attitudes, and behaviors of its staff. This design should support the unique vision and purpose in a way that sets it apart from others in the market that provide similar offerings.

She also discussed which design is appropriate for credit unions (since no two are alike): hierarchical, flat, functional, division, networking, or matrix. In exploring organizational design, decision-making structures and levels of authority are important elements in identifying and implementing a most effective structure.

Darlene added that businesses with people, information, and technology integrated and organized around a common vision and purpose have a higher probability of success. The deeper the organization, its individuals, and actions embody the same vision and purpose, the greater ease, flexibility, and resilience are accessible.

Tansley Stearns, President/CEO of Community Financial Credit Union, and Teri Kuehn, Board Chair of Community Financial Credit Union, joined us in the Studio Lounge to share insights on their working relationship between CEO and Board Chair that maintains project momentum, sparks new ideas, strengthens the organization from top to bottom, and so much more.

Tansley and Teri also talked about women in leadership and, in particular, what it means to have two women leading CFCU at the executive and board levels. One a related note, they also addressed the steps taken to hit the ground running with a CEO and new Board member, as Terri recently became Board Chair at CFCU six months ago.

Lastly, we discussed CFCU's incredibly well-timed partnership the NFL's Detroit Lions and how that is working for the credit union -- especially with the Lions' recent run into the playoffs. Can you say maximum exposure for CFCU?

Another super insightful conversation with Tansley -- and Teri, as well -- on how to keep a forward-thinking credit union progressive with clarity and transparency between execs and boards.

Check it out and let us know your thoughts. And be sure to watch all our Studio Lounge interviews from the 2024 CUES Symposium.

Canvas Credit Union President/CEO Todd Marksberry stopped by the Studio Lounge in between breakout sessions at CUES Symposium to share what a leader's bold vision means to him. Todd also provided examples of what Canvas has done in its recent history to illustrate a bold vision -- which, surprisingly, has little to do with technology (but he agrees we still need to have it) and a lot to do with connecting with the communities you serve.

Great stuff here, once again, from Todd. Check it out and let us know your thoughts. And be sure to watch all our Studio Lounge interviews from the 2024 CUES Symposium.
