#160: How Operation Best Wishes' Walt Laskos spreads Christmas cheer for members and military

12/20/2012

How about some uplifting news this holiday season? Well, there's nobody more qualified than Walt Laskos and his Operation Best Wishes program that allows credit union members to send holiday video messages to their loved ones in the military stationed overseas. Walt was kind enough to chat with us during this busy time of year for him, explaining how Operation Best Wishes started and how it has grown over the years. Operation Best Wishes celebrates nine years of producing and delivering videos. With this track record, Walt provides a few anecdotes of filming members' messages that certainly tug on the heartstrings. I can't think of a better way to close out the year and celebrate what's really important this holiday season. Enjoy -- and Merry Christmas!

#159: Aite Group's Ron Shevlin on What FI Marketers Should Do With Twitter (part 2)...

12/12/2012

We are back with part 2 of our discussion with Aite Group's Ron Shevlin. This episode focuses on Ron's latest report: "What Bank Marketers Should Do With Twitter". We discuss why there's so much confusion in the FI services industry when it comes to using Twitter effectively -- as well as is it possible for banks and credit unions to reach their audiences in 140 characters? Ron closes the show with some effective ways credit union and bank marketers can use Twitter to attract more followers -- such as shopping deals, PFM, etc. As always, many thanks to Ron for being on the show. Always learn something new and have a few laughs along the way. Enjoy part 2!

#158: Aite Group's Ron Shevlin on Credit Unions' Online- and Mobile-Channel Strategies (part 1)...

12/10/2012

Always an entertaining and highly informative time when Aite Group's Senior Analyst Ron Shevlin (also author of the popular blog Snarketing 2.0) visits the show. Ron's wit and wisdom keep you on your toes throughout and he certainly delivers in this first of two parts. In part 1, Ron focuses on a recent report he authored, "Credit Unions' Online- and Mobile-Channel Strategies," where we discuss credit unions' strategies -- or lack thereof -- when it comes to online and/or mobile solutions. In perfect Shevlin form, however, Ron presents the problem but provides a sound solution for credit unions that may lack a definite direction in these areas. Never short on advice through his research and expertise, you won't want to miss this episode. Enjoy -- and stay tuned for part 2 on Ron's take on FI marketers use of Twitter.

#157: Getting to the bottom of VISA's V.me with TMG's Brandon Kuehl...

12/6/2012

The payments space keeps inching closer and closer to a genuine, bonafide digital wallet and VISA just came out with the next inch that is getting us in the neighborhood. It's called V.me. To get to the bottom of VISA's V.me, we invited TMG's Brandon Kuehl on the show to see how this new payments method affects credit unions and ultimately their members. We also discuss TMG's role in rolling out V.me to credit unions, along with what the future holds for this technology. Fascinating stuff from Brandon that you'll enjoy. Check it out!

#156: Post election, MBL, tax exemption, and cliff diving with NAFCU's Brad Thaler...

12/3/2012

Now that the elections have settled, Washington, D.C., has returned right where it left off -- mired in gridlock. Some things never change. One person who is all about change, however, is NAFCU's Vice President of Legislative Affairs Brad Thaler. Brad is one of the credit union industry's top lobbyists and he works hard at getting the credit union voice heard on Capitol Hill. He has a number of big issues that he needs to push in 2013 and beyond: continue tax exemption and raising MBL being a couple of biggies.

To get a behind-the-scenes look at his lobbyist job, we invited Brad on the show to discuss the major credit union issues he advocates on a daily basis. We also talked about how the elections will impact credit unions over the next few years -- negative or positive. And, of course, we had to chat about the mounting "fiscal cliff" that seems to have everybody's attention right now. Brad gives us the inside scoop on that issue and much more. Enjoy the program!
