Always a treat talking credit unions with Cardwell Group's Senior Consultant and former Arkansas Federal Credit Union CEO Larry Biernacki. In our final part of our "Forgotten Middle" series, Larry provides multiple solutions for credit unions struggling in the $250 million to $750 million asset range -- one of which is alignment of goals from the organization's very top to the bottom and valuable information and feedback percolating from the bottom to the top.

Larry explains this premise and more based on his own personal experiences of being a successful credit union executive for many, many years -- actually bringing Arkansas FCU from $400 million to over $1 billion during his tenure. So soak up his wisdom and put it to work -- and let us know what you think.

It's no secret that the recent MBL rules change by the NCUA has been one of the top stories of 2016 so far. It could be a game changer for many credit unions. But all of this doesn't occur until 2017. So naturally it's time to go to school to prepare for what's to come -- and NASCUS has created a new MBL school to proactively address our soon-to-be new world.

We invited NASCUS President/CEO Lucy Ito on the program to discuss the organization's new MBL school, key changes in the new rule from the old, how it affects state chartered credit unions, and why it's imperative that both state credit union examiners and practitioners have strong backgrounds in the philosophy and nuances of the new rule.

It's yet another insightful chat with Lucy on a hot topic you won't want to miss. Check it out.

We ran into Geezeo's CMO Bryan Clagett at the recent NAFCU Strategic Growth Conference in sunny San Diego and discussed his "Engaging with Millennials" presentation, which covered such items as:
  • OnStar relationships with members
  • Uberization of banking: traditional banking full of friction
  • Analog marketing; focus?
  • Social media: not just Millennials (any age now)
  • SEO strategies: Are CUs doing anything?
  • Embracing Millennial's optimism

We discussed many of these items and more -- along with the "rare" good weather San Diego conjured up for the NAFCU event. Check it out and let us know your thoughts on this timely topic.

Philanthropy and credit unions go hand in hand like jeans and T-shirts, strawberries and whipped cream, Edison and a Tesla, and even the Captain and Tennille. Ok, the last one's a stretch, but you get the gist.

It's for this reason, and a myriad of others, that the Foundation launched its new Credit Union Philanthropy & Foundation Toolkit_ for CUs looking jumpstart or enhance their charity endeavors. These endeavors will initially accomplish two things: deepen member relationships and expose the credit union's altruistic difference to consumers who may be looking for a change.

To get more details on this launch, we invited the Foundation's Executive Director Gigi Hyland on the show. Gigi shared why her organization created and launched the Toolkit, how it can help credit unions get moving in this area, credit union examples of successful philanthropic efforts, goals for the Toolkit, and where credit unions can get the Toolkit and get started. Check it out and fire up your charity plans today.

Tom explains to us that he's made a few changes to his HealthScore model, revealing new details of industry performance. These details show a few new concerns for credit unions, as they currently reside in good times. But there's always something that isn't quite right and Tom and his HealthScore displays those possibly concerning blips.

We also discussed why he made adjustments to his HealthScore process and what he hopes to gain from them, as well as, where folks can pick up the quarterly reports -- which are free, by the way. So check it out and let us know what you think.
