Element Federal Credit Union has come up with a mighty fine idea to foster a closer connection amongst its employees that has enhanced staff morale, increased productivity, and opened up new channels of communication -- even with its employees stationed at their seven branches. Element has created an internal social network, thanks to Yammer, that has accomplished all these things and more. We invited the credit union's Chief Innovator Linda Bodie on the show to find how just how this network has become so effective for her staff, resulting in greater member service.

Check it out and let us know if you're doing something similar with comparable results. And read Linda's story on Element's social network success entitled: "How to Spice Up Your Sex Life and Rekindle Romance." Enjoy!

Cisco's VP of IoE Global Practice Joseph Bradley joins us for today's episode on his company's latest report -- "Digital Vortex: How Digital Disruption is  Redefining Finance Services." A few key items Joseph points out include:

    • How will it impact financial services? (seems like it already has pretty significantly)
    • What do you mean by "Nearing the Center of Disruption"?
    • How about "Leadership Attitudes on Digital Disruption"? (only one in three aware of it?)
    • And, lastly, what about "New Leaders Will Emerge"?

We also touched on how some of the smaller, more nimble start ups are the biggest concern to today's established financial institutions -- and that means you, too, credit unions. Check it out.

NCUA completed its most recent meeting and one of the major issues covered was the much-anticipated FOM proposal -- now up for commenting from the industry. To get some expert perspective on the meeting's results, we invited former NCUA Chairman and Principal Partner of Dollar Associates Dennis Dollar.

Dennis shared with us his take on what transpired during the FOM portion of the meeting, along with a couple key items that stood out, hits and misses, and where we go from here after the comment period expires. Many thanks to Dennis for coming on the show and providing his feedback.

And don't forget to watch our other posted interviews: Callahan's Sam Taft on Iowa CUs lending success, Maps Credit Union/ Western Oregon University's financial literacy program, Bruce Barcott on where CUs line up with the growing cannabis business, and more. Enjoy your weekend!

It's no secret that credit unions are having an exceptional year on all levels. And there's no end in sight. For Iowa credit unions, they seem to be leading the pack in performance -- especially with mortgage lending.

To get the details on why Iowa credit unions are doing so well, we invited Callahan & Associates Industry Analyst Sam Taft on the show. Sam shared some phenomenal performance numbers and specific practices they are doing, along with what other credit unions can do to achieve similar and stunning results as we head into the holidays.

We also talked about why Americans are choosing cooperatives over banks today for their mortgage lending, which is one of the reasons for these stellar lending numbers. A very candid and revealing chat with Sam. Enjoy -- and let us know what your credit union is doing to achieve fantastic results. We like sharing here.

#495: How Maps, Western Oregon University, and BizKid$ Partnered to Create Financial Education Innovation...

Ahhh, it's the trifecta of partnerships in financial education: Maps Credit Union, Western Oregon University, and BizKid$ all gathered together and provide not only the content but the venue and the medium to deliver this important message of financial literacy. And to top it off, they are presenting to students before they've had a chance to screw up their finances like so many of us have because we never had something like this growing up. I know I didn't.

To get the inside scoop on how this partnership works, along with the benefits and goals -- and some advice for other CUs if they choose to do something similar, we invited Maps' Director of Educational Partnerships Cori Frauendiener and Western Oregon University's Dr. Ken Carano. A fantastic conversation on how three groups came together for a great cause. Enjoy!
