Curql Collective
Pairing fintechs with credit unions can be a daunting task. Just go to any financial technology-focused event and there will be a plethora of these organizations looking to gain your business -- or in some not-so-friendly cases take over your business.

Fortunately, most are in the former category looking for an engaged audience to adopt their product/service. In this case, that audience is credit unions.

One organization looks to help connect fintechs with credit unions -- and go one important step further: invest in fintechs. That organization is called Curql (pronounced "circle").

Curql partners with fintechs to activate meaningful, experiential change through user-centric technology in financial services. Together, through an engaged and deliberate collaboration, Curql can bring a fintech's technology to life and to the credit union industry. In other words, it's the the on ramp to help fintech entreprenuers bring innovation to more than 5,000 credit unions and 124 million members throughout the U.S.

We invited newly appointed Curql President/CEO Nick Evens, formerly with The Veridian Group and still leader of VentureTech, on the show to share how Curql Collective and Curql Fund work together to bring vetted fintechs to credit unions to help them take advantage of the latest technologies that will ultimately better serve their members well into the future.

Fascinating talk with Nick on an idea that's sure to take off and benefit both credit unions and fintechs. Check it out and let us know your thoughts. And watch the entire interview with Nick below for all the details and getting involved.

We've all seen plenty of stories and heard all sorts of speakers on how credit unions can attract Gen Z over the last few years. There's quite a bit of information out there on this topic. But the folks at Backbase have put a twist on this topic, as it relates to credit unions' digital transformation journeys.

To get all the details, we invited Vince Bezemer, SVP Americas for Backbase, back on the show. Vince discussed how banks and credit unions can adapt to adequately serve and attract Gen Z -- especially in today's marketplace following a pandemic.

Vince also talks about how delaying digital innovation can have detrimental effects on a credit union. He also touched on how customer loyalty is weaker with this generation -- and why this is. Gen Z'ers won't wait around for you if they can use a product in their channel of choice elsewhere.

Lastly, Vince talks about why credit unions need to focus their efforts on front-end innovation with this group.

Very compelling conversation with Vince. So check it out and let us know your thoughts. And be sure to watch the entire episode for all the details below.

Well before it was necessary to pivot, CUNA Mutual Group has been hosting its Discovery Conference online for 12 years now. It's a safe to say they have this medium wired.

To give us the inside scoop on what has made Discovery a huge success online for more than a decade, we invited CUNA Mutual Group Senior Vice President of Sales Rob Purtell on the show. Rob shared with us what makes this event so unique, why you should attend, and how you can sign up to attend.

Lastly, Rob addressed lessons learned over the years hosting a conference online -- again, before we had to. CUNA Mutual Group rolled the dice and gambled on an online event for all. And it appears they have exceeded all expectations.

Check it out and let us know your thoughts. And don't forget to register to attend. They have some top-notch speakers this year, discussing the latest industry trends and issues.

Michigan Business Connection (MBC) has launched a new Small Credit Union Participation Program to the Michigan credit union community. The program was designed for “smaller” credit unions, without any specific asset size requirement. This program allows smaller asset size credit unions to succeed by leveraging collaboration, helping them diversify their loan portfolios through business loan originations and participations.

To get all the details on this recent launch, we invited MBC President/CEO Bill Beardsley and Michigan Coastal Credit Union ($22 million) CEO Rob Viland, who was the first to pilot the program, on the show.

According to Bill, a lot of smaller credit unions have very strong liquidity and net worth but need more loan growth and earning assets. They lack the capacity to staff up to meet the needs of small business members, and have difficulty finding loan participation programs that welcome small increment participations.

Under the Small Credit Union Participation Program, participation increments can be as low as $25,000 and are limited to not exceed $100,000.

Rob knew it was an amazing opportunity for his credit union to get involved. He says, “As a credit union we are always looking for new opportunities to lend and grow our expertise. MBC’s Small CU Participation Program is a perfect way for us to do just that. The program allows us to originate and participate with member business loans at an amount and frequency that makes sense for us.”

Enjoy our conversation and let us know your thoughts. Appears to be a great opportunity for smaller credit unions to grow their portfolios. And be sure to watch the entire interview below the show notes for all the details.
