CUNA Senior Economist Jordan van Rijn visited us on the show to shed a bit of light on today's rising student loan debt ($1.5 trillion) and how credit unions can help mitigate this unfortunate bloom. It is now the second largest component of household debt, surpassing auto loans in just the past decade.

Jordan shares what the current state of student loan debt in our country today, some causes of this rising source of debt, how credit unions can step up to help students -- and parents. He also cites quite a few resources credit unions and their members to turn to for more information on this issue.

Check it out and let us know your thoughts. For details, read the story Jordan wrote: "Is student loan debt the next financial crisis?"

Glatt Consulting's Tom Glatt joined us on the program to share the latest, glowing news on credit unions' performance from his quarterly Credit Union HealthScore report. Tom shared the latest findings from Q3 -- plus a couple blips to be aware of as we move into 2019.

Overall, credit unions are still doing very well experiencing 19 straight quarters of growth. We also touched on the how the recent rate increases may affect business next year, as well as the rumors of a possible mini recession later in 2019.

Lastly, we switched gears to discuss the hurricanes that hit the East coast last fall -- one of which hit Tom's town of Wilmington, NC, directly. He shares that experience and how life has been since then. As Tom puts it: Lots of standing water has been the theme.

Check it out and let us know your thoughts.

So grateful to cover this industry that is incredibly open to sharing its story. Believe me, I've worked in other industries where nobody wants to talk and it's stifling. Consider yourselves very unique in this area and never stop telling your story.

That said, thank you for all the amazing support this year for CUbroadcast -- whether you were an esteemed guest, sponsor, or viewer. We can't cover this wonderful industry that goes waaaay deeper than the transaction without you. Credit unions literally change lives and it's so rewarding to be a part of that positive impact in some way.

Have a very Merry Christmas and a safe and festive New Year this holiday season, enjoying family and friends with plenty of giving, gratitude, and, of course, laughter. These times create the best memories. See you 2019!
