TwinStar Credit Union Enterprise Content Management Supervisor Travis Millar joined us to share how his credit union  developed an accounts payable (A/P) process using Laserfiche forms which helps them streamline their accounting operations.

Travis discussed how this new A/P process came in handy during the pandemic as people were out working remotely. He also explained how TwinStar developed this process using a program that is part of the credit union’s Laserfiche ECM -- in conjunction withMVi and its development team. He adds that they were able to create a very powerful program utilizing a product they currently own.

Travis also talked about the power of using workflows in the credit union's day-to-day operations to help streamline their business processes, as well as other items currently being used at TwinStar relative to Laserfiche and with forms, workflows and business processes.

As we all know very well, credit unions have stepped up their incredible generosity during the coronavirus pandemic -- whether it's time, finances, or just about anything else. There have been literally thousands of stories how credit unions have given back to their communities nationwide. And in many cases communities they don't specifically serve.

Desert Financial Credit Union is definitely one those credit unions that continues to step up these days -- even in communities where they don't have a presence. Desert Financial just donated $62,300 to the Flagstaff Medical Center in response to COVID-19. The credit union has no branches or affiliations in the Flagstaff area. They're just doing what credit unions do best -- giving back to communities in need.

Desert Financial's EVP Ron Amstutz was kind enough to join us and share the details:
  • N95 masks ($30,000 to purchase) -- hospital can sterilize and reuse them
  • Face shields (250)
  • Gift bags (650)
  • NAH Leadership Fund ($10,000)
  • Navajo Nation connection

Another great story from a great organization. To date, Desert Financial has given a total of $1.056 million to communities since the onset of the pandemic, including a range of donations, Random Acts of Kindness to members, $150,000 in emergency grants to non-profits and more. Check it out and let us know your thoughts.

Since COVID-19 crashed our shores five or six months ago, everything today is either remote or digital or both -- credit union core conversions included.

To get the credit union perspective on what a remote core conversion looks like, we invited $2.8 billion Founders Federal Credit Union CTO Bob Bender on the show. Bob shares planning stages, going live, team collaboration, third-party vendors, rehearsals (lots of them), and much, much more.

“Even though Corelation and Founders teams operated remotely, the collaboration was amazing, and the project never suffered,” explains Bob. “I would recommend a remote install over an onsite install anytime.  Allowing employees reduced travel and back home at the end of the day was not a distraction for the project.  In many ways, it accelerated the benefits and project timeline of the conversion.”

Bob even discussed what these remote conversions mean moving forward in a post-COVID world. He also includes his "Bob's Top Suggestions for Remote Core Conversions":
  • Focus on your Data Capital – clean house and clean again.
  • Go visit 2 live clients go live events – build your game plan
  • Outsource keeping the lights on needs – if you can spend more time and create a longer runway, it will benefit you on the other side.
  • Ask the experts – what are they doing differently
  • People and process – this will make you great.
