Many of us have heard stories of Afghan interpreters, who helped the U.S. military during the recent war in Afghanistan, stuck in that country and whose lives are at stake because of that very assistance. It's a sticky situation, no doubt. But there are many private groups that are helping these individuals and their families escape the country and possible harm to lead better lives in neighboring countries -- eventually making it to the U.S., as many were promised in return for their help.

One of those groups that is helping Afghans and their families flee Afghanistan, Tarjoman Relief, joined our show to share their stories and ask for help from credit unions to help these people not only escape but to gain firm financial footing in their new lives.

Tarjamon Relief's Gonzalo Lassally and Will Felder, who served together in Afghanistan in the mid-2000s, visited us -- along with The Sheeter Group's President/CEO Andy Sheeter -- to share their life-changing events during their respective tours in the war-torn country. They were in some pretty harrowing situations to put it lightly.

But what made a bigger impact on their lives was the sacrifice Afghans made to help the U.S. military in their mission. This assistance was literally life threatening to these people if found out by the enemy. Many of these interpreters would fight side by side with U.S. forces, as well. Truly heroic acts.

Gonzalo and Will also discuss the arduous process required to help these interpreters and their families escape the country to a neighboring country and then wait for passage to the U.S. It's very dangerous and expensive. But these locals most likely saved thousands of U.S. military lives over the course of many years. It's time to give back.

These two amazing gentlemen created Tarjoman Relief to help those interpreters and their families escape Afghanistan and come to the U.S. to start their new lives. None of these efforts comes free and they need your donations to help these people flee life-threatening situations and, again, start new lives here in the U.S.

It's a riveting conversation about how Afghan interpreters risked their lives to help the U.S military, what's being done today to help these people, the arduous process of getting people out of there and over here, how credit unions can step up and help, and much, much more.

I know this interview is almost 30 minutes long, but it goes by in a flash because the story is so compelling. Check it out and let us know your thoughts, as finance is one of the keys to succeeding here.
