The fintech sector of our industry recently experienced some significant business acquisition news: Finastra acquiring Malauzai. To get the inside scoop on this acquisition, we invited Finastra's Managing Director of North America Mike Dionne and and Malauzai's Chief Product Officer Robb Gaynor on the show to discuss how this move affects both companies and their clients -- established and prospective.

Mike and Robb shared their stories on the acquisition and what it means for the financial services industry -- and credit unions, of course. We also discussed how financial institutions will benefit from this move, as well as how the industry has responded, future plans, and much more.

Check it out and let us know your thoughts.

#987: Why O Bee Credit Union Created a 'Pub-Style' Branch for Its Members...

8/27/2018

There are quite a few credit union across our great land that have coffee shop-themed branches to help their members feel more comfortable while conducting their finances. It's definitely appealing. But how many have a "pub-themed" branch to really relax on that branch visit? One.

O Bee Credit Union has just opened it's first branch in Ruston, WA, with brewery-like decor complete with taps, bar, and more. O Bee's Vice President of Marketing Lee Wojnar appropriately calls it "pub style banking."

Now before we go on, let's get something clear: O Bee is NOT serving any alcoholic beverages during working hours. There are laws preventing that type of thing in a financial institution. It's all for show. But they plan to host private beer tasting events on occasion after hours -- after clearing it with the appropriate authorities, of course.

The reason for the brewery theme: O Bee's "heritage" stems from breweries. So they thought it would be fun to create a branch that displays their unique history.

Pretty cool. So check it out and let us know your thoughts.

We have another CUES Parting Shots interview gem for you. This one is a bit technology related, as we chatted with retired SafeAmerica Credit Union Vice President of IT John Gracyalny -- who may not be retired for long. John has a lot of energy and passion still for this industry, so you may find him in a consulting position or on an advisory board somewhere soon.

Our conversation covered so much ground, touching on John's career path, core technology changes over the years, how far tech has progressed (and it's not slowing down), Apple Pay, remote deposit capture, mobile, and much, much more.

We also talked about the importance of mentorship -- and his mentors, advice for future credit union leaders in the tech sector, status of the industry today and where he would like to see it go in the near future.

Amazing conversation -- especially if you like financial technology.  So check it out and let us know your thoughts.

AdvantEdge Analytics Senior Business Consultant Tammy Schwartzer returns for part two (of three) of our talk on how credit unions can activate their data for optimal member engagement.

In this episode, we focused on what "hyper-personalization" means and how can credit unions leverage it to their benefit. Tammy also explained in great detail how today's credit unions can use data to create memorable service experiences for their increasingly digitally-sophisticated member base.

We covered a lot more in this discussion, so check it out and let us know your thoughts.
