Vizo Financial had seven payments systems and simply needed a more efficient and better way for its member credit unions -- and ultimately those members. So they signed up with Aptys and went from seven to a single, one-of-a-kind platform, using PayLOGICS.

Both Jaime and Eric explained the process involved, the subsequent benefits and results, and what's next for the two organizations working together.

Mergers and acquisitions are quite the hot topic in the credit union industry right now -- and can be a bit divisive, as well, when the term consolidation comes up. But in a vast majority of these partnerships, it's a win for both organizations and their members.

Such was the case with the recent University Credit Union and Chabot Federal Credit Union merger. University Credit Union President/CEO Dr. David Tuyo came on the show to share the plans behind this merger with another university-based financial institution -- which is the next step in the credit union's ambitious goals.

David discussed the motive behind this recent merger with Chabot FCU being located in San Francisco University CU being in located in Los Angeles. He explained how this long-distance relationship will work for members and staff.

In addition, David talked about how this particular merger started. Who’s idea was it? Who approached whom? And then he provided the process of how this business venture progressed and then, again, the goals for the Chabot merger.

Lastly, we discussed his thoughts on mergers and acquisitions within the credit union industry today. Is it a good thing, a bad thing, or the natural progression of a successful industry? According to Callahan & Associates, there were 70 mergers first six months of 2021 and 135 from June 2020 to June 2021 -- while the number of credit union members continues to rise.

Credit Unions for Kids’ Director, Strategic Partnerships Nick Coleman joined us on the show to discuss the organization's “Credit Unions for Kids 25th Year Fundraising Challenge.”
