As we watch the industry conference schedule fall like dominoes one after another, one begins to wonder when we'll ever gather again in person to exchange ideas. Hopefully, that day arrives very soon.

Since that date is still in the realm of the unknown, the folks at CO-OP Financial Services, who put on their standout TH!NK Conferences each year, are leveraging all the video conferencing technology we're using today to host TH!NK20 Virtual on May 7, 2020, 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. (PST).

Credit unions are doing so many good things for their members and employees during these challenging times. It's inspiring to say the least.

NIH Federal Credit Union is doing the same for its staff and members -- and has taken its goodness a step further, launching SendaMessageofHope.com. This website allows anybody to post an inspiring message of gratitude to healthcare workers, showing support for them during this challenging time. As video or photo messages are posted, they are shared with hospitals, healthcare clinics, and more.

We talk with NIH President/CEO Rick Wieczorek to get the story behind this website, why they launched it, what sparked the idea, goals, and much, much more.

Finastra’s Vice President, Lending Product Management, Development & Compliance Mitch Lucas stopped by the show to share the role of financial institutions and fintechs in healthcare lending amidst COVID-19 crisis. Mitch discussed how fintechs can assist banks and credit unions, healthcare providers, and patients with healthcare lending providing the necessary technology to speed up the processing.

Lending is nothing short of a roller coaster these days because of the obvious pandemic situation we're all in right now. Some sectors are slow, some are overwhelmingly busy, and others have potential. So how does a credit union cope with this varied situation?

According to Hyland’s Director of Financial Services and Insurance Steve Comer, there are cloud-based file sharing tools (Hyland's ShareBase being one of them) to respond to the current health pandemic for SBA loans and the Paycheck Protection Program processes associated with them.

We talk with Steve about the increased usage of these cloud-based tools, as well as bringing in Consumers Credit Union Vice President of Technology Bob Dunning to share how his credit unions has used ShareBase to enhance their performance in this area. Bob provides some jaw-dropping stats that show how these tools can help in uncertain times like these.

Wauna Federal Credit Union’s Communications Specialist Michael Murdoch (and his cat) joined us on the show to share some of what his credit union is doing for employees and members during the COVID-19 crisis. Michael also discussed what this crisis could mean for Young Credit Union Professionals (YCUP) -- lots of opportunities to step up and advance their careers.

Michael, who is also the YCUP President for the Pacific Northwest, talks about the pros and cons of what the pandemic is doing to this group but provides some advice on how they can turn a negative into a positive to benefit their careers in the long run. Always thinking ahead, Mr. Murdoch is.
