#2199: 'CUSO Guru' Guy Messick Announces Retirement, Reflects on Industry-Changing Career...

Retirement stories are so bittersweet -- this one in particular. Yes, you're happy  for these amazing human beings who have contributed a lion's share of their lives to their mission -- which has most likely made a massive difference within the industries they have served. But you're selfishly sad that they are exiting for the next exciting chapter of their lives, leaving us without a rudder to keep steering in the right direction.

That story exemplifies Messick Lauer & Smith Partner Guy Messick (a.k.a. the CUSO Guru), who has just announced his retirement from practicing law full-time. But Guy did much, much more than practice law for credit unions. He spent 35 years serving credit unions and CUSOs in several capacities: lawyer, consultant, presenter, mentor, regulatory advocate, and CUSO board member. Suffice to say, he's more than a guru; he's literally a Renaissance man for credit unions.

We invited Guy to come on the show to reflect on his stellar career, talking about the his role in the evolution of the CUSO movement -- helping mold it to what is it today. He also shared some highlights throughout his career, advice for future leaders, his future plans (spoiler alert: he will still be serving credit unions and CUSOs), and much, much more.

And Guy also shares with us the backstory on how he gained the esteemed designation of "the CUSO Guru."
