Pretty serious episode here, looking out for the kiddos and their seemingly innocent online endeavors -- TikTok, Roblox, Instagram, etc. We all know how susceptible adults are to online scams, fraudsters, and predators. But children are ever increasingly in these peoples' (if you can call them that) line of sight to target and take advantage of. It's heart-breaking and sickening.

I receive the SOS Daily News from Stickley on Security's (SOS) Jim Stickley -- one of our industry's most renowned cybersecurity experts. I read this newsletter top to bottom every time. One recent issue had a story entitled "Children as Online Targets -- What Every Parent Needs to Know."

Being a parent of a whole crew of kids, I jumped on this story in a millisecond wanting to know more. So I invited Jim to come on the show and share his expertise on how to protect kids from online fraudsters and predators, what to look out for as a parent, how to know if your child is a victim of an identity thief -- or, God forbid, something worse.

We even talked about what role a credit union could play in this, unfortunately, growing scenario. Parents need all the help they can get in this area these days. So anything to add to the arsenal of protection is immensely valuable.

Lastly, this is part 1 of 2. The second part, which we will post next week, looks at the brutal reality of this situation. Jim shares two real-world examples of families and their kids experiencing the unfortunate lure of online predators. These two stories he discussed are happening right now and they break your heart -- but should fuel you to take every precaution out there to protect kids.

Check it out and let us know your thoughts. And stay tuned for next week's part 2.

Mike thank you for doing this! Great information. We are always talking about fraud but I was NOT aware that kids are becoming bigger targets. I have shared on our association's FB page and on my own personal page.
