GoWest Credit Union Association's VP, Grassroots/Political Programs & Legislative Affairs (Oregon) Pam Leavitt and AVP, Grassroots Engagement (Idaho) Jordan Beyer, and Erin Moore, Education Program Manager at OnPoint Community Credit Union all joined us onsite at the Oregon state capitol of Salem to celebrate Oregon Credit Union Day — the fifth of six GoWest Credit Union Days at each of the association's six states’ Capitols.
In addition to celebrating Oregon Credit Union Day, the trio (as well as 200 other Oregon credit unions) is there to support bringing real world education to classrooms in state's new financial literacy bill. The bill introduces financial and life skills to high school curriculums, giving youth the knowledge to jumpstart their future.
They also talked about presenting economic and community impact data credit unions are responsible for in Oregon. Some of those stats include:
$3.8 billion total impact for Oregon economy
36% of Oregon's rural populations belongs to a credit union
$7.4 billion in auto loans, $7.8 billion in home loans
Credit union membership has increased by 9.5%, while state's population increased 1.3%
A very inspiring talk with Pam, Erin, and Jordan. Check it out and let us know your thoughts.
