It's been a long time coming, and it came and passed with a whimper. No, it's not Y2K, again. It's the EMV liability shift October 1, 2015, "deadline" that we've all been talking about since the late 1850s it seems like.
All kidding aside, even though this date didn't get a massive ticker-tape parade down 5th Avenue, it is still an important one as credit unions march their way to much better credit and debit card security that has been needed since the mag-stripe rolled out in the 1970s. It has been well past the time for an advancement to temporarily quell the fraudsters' froth.
To get the latest status on the EMV liability shift deadline, we invited CSCU President Bob Hackney on the show to see who's enabled and who's not, what can happen to those who aren't, what EMV really means for future security technology advancements (hint: bye-bye mag-stripe), and much more. Enjoy!
