Northwest Credit Union Association COO Denise Gabel joined us on CUbroadcast to discuss a topic that's very hot in our industry right now -- especially with credit union CEOs retiring left and right it seems -- and that is: "The Race for Talent, and Starting with the Leader." It's an issue that many folks have been talking about since the recession's effects have subsided and our industry's long-established CEOs feel comfortable enough to retire now that their proverbial ships have been "righted" -- escaping our recent economic meltdown.
Now comes the next issue: new talent taking the industry baton and running with it hopefully higher levels of achievement. Denise discusses who this new breed of talent is, what to expect, how they will lead, and plenty more insights for today's Boards to consider.
We then segued to Board recruitment and how sometimes its a challenge finding new Board members to volunteer and set the credit union's course with quality leaders. Denise also touched on Board diversification and her advice for credit unions in that area. As she puts it, "This is not a fundraising position."
And to cap off our conversation, Denise reads an excerpt from her upcoming book that deals with the very topic we addressed in this interview. Stay tuned to your Amazon homepage for that highly anticipated publication. Enjoy!
