When I saw the news about Trailhead Credit Union blocking its members' debit card usage at Walmart in The Payments Review, I nearly fell out of my chair. I initially thought their members must be up in arms with pitchforks, plows, and torches at Trailhead for doing such a thing. How dare they block my beloved Walmart.
I couldn't have been more wrong when I started looking deeper into their situation. It was actually a good thing -- a really good thing.
So we invited Trailhead's CEO Jim McCarthy on the program to get the inside scoop on why this happened, what steps they took to block the usage at Walmart, how did it affect their business, feedback from members, how they worked with their card processor (Member Access Pacific), and any advice for other credit unions that may need to do the same thing.
Check it out and let us know your thoughts.
