Don't you love it when your credit union is on the forefront of, well, anything? I know I do. And it just so happens my credit union, San Diego County Credit Union, may be the first credit union in the land to run a mobile cash access app for its members. (Please correct me if I'm wrong.)
To find out how this app works, we invited the brains behind its development, CU Wallet Chief Product Officer Karl Cherry. Karl explains that essentially this app, aptly named SDCCU Wallet, controls the credit union's ATM from the comfort of your car. No, you can't just press a button on your mobile from your front seat and thousands of dollars come spewing out. But you're getting close.
In reality, you can sit in your car and use the app to tell the ATM that you need $40. Then walk up to the ATM and press a button on its interface and get your $40. Boom, your done. No more fumbling for cards. No more pressing multiple buttons. No more looking over your shoulder. No more ... well, you get the picture.
So what does this mean for credit unions and members? According to Karl, it means leveling the playing field for credit unions with the big banks, many of whom already have this tech. And it also means upping the convenience and security ante for members at the ATM -- not to mention, yet another cool factor to boast about.
This stuff is just the tip of the iceberg as Karl adds. So enjoy this episode and let us know your thoughts. I just downloaded the SDCCU Wallet app and can't wait to give a test run this weekend.
