More than 750 credit union supporters showed up on the Iowa state capitol steps yesterday to display their support for credit unions and curtail the proposed bill -- even CUNA President/CEO and Iowa native Jim Nussle made a personal appearance to voice his support, as well as Iowa Republican Representative Walt Rogers and credit union member/Coopera Consulting Client Relations Associate Kenia Calderon.
The bill (Senate File 2383) was passed by the Iowa Senate last week that calls for a tax increase on 20 credit unions and their 600,000 members -- which would also impact rates and fees for new credit union members and consumers living in the state of Iowa.
We invited Iowa Credit Union League President/CEO Pat Jury and Vice President of Government Affairs Justin Hupfer on the show to clarify what's going in Des Moines, as well as share the tremendous support the nationwide credit union community has had for Iowa in what could a precedent-setting decision in that state regarding taxation on CUs.
Check it out and let us know your thoughts.
