Dr. Lamont Black, Associate Professor of Finance, DePaul University, joined us in the Studio Lounge to share highlights from his latest conference presentation: "Cryptocurrency, Blockchain, and the Future of Lending."
Here's a quick description of his session that we addressed:
In this session, Dr. Black will explain how blockchain is an emerging platform that has the potential to transform lending. Although many people think of cryptocurrency as an investment, the technology was designed to record and transfer value online. Together, crypto and blockchain can provide features like digital title for physical assets and information sharing on a distributed ledger that are much more efficient than current document management systems. Blockchains like Ethereum are designed for digital record-keeping and digital payments, so the technology already exists to start building on these networks. Together, credit unions (especially lending officers) can explore the opportunities for providing their existing loan products on a better technology platform.
Check it out and let us know your thoughts.
