The Cooperative Trust's 2017 Crashers' Chat Show, just like the 2016 event, was loaded with practical, educational, and inspiring content from four highly respected credit union industry panelists:
  • Linda Armyn, â€ŽSenior Vice President Corporate Affairs at Bethpage Federal Credit Union
  • Doug Leighton, Senior Vice President and Head of Community Accounts at VISA
  • Victor Corro, Vice President for Member Services at World Council of Credit Unions
  • Dean Young, Senior Vice President at PSCU

Here are the questions that were posed to the panel for their candid responses:

Technology
  • What is the mindset of credit unions when it comes to researching our financial technology future?
  • We all know that technology's pace is head-spinning fast these days, what can credit unions do to keep pace to keep relevant?

Unserved Markets
  • We all hear about a credit union here or there stepping up and helping the underserved. These are fantastic and infectious stories for our industry. But these stories seem few and far between -- or are we just not hearing about others? That said, where are credit unions today in serving the unserved markets?
  • What can a credit union do to step up their efforts in this area? (And then, is it good to tell this story or keep it close to their vest?)

Regulation
  • Leaving politics aside, when the new administration announced they were going to "freeze" regulations, what was your immediate reaction?
  • In the meantime, the over-regulated environment has unfortunately stifled creativity, member services, new product development, etc. -- especially at smaller credit unions where resources are sometimes scarce.  With the new administration, there are also rumblings of gutting or repealing Dodd-Frank, thus reducing regulations. Again, leaving the politics out, what's your take on this possible move?

The Credit Union Difference
  • Based on your industry experience, what is your perspective of the credit union difference? What is it in your mind?
  • Is this difference enough for today's consumers to ignore the disruptors? Is this difference enough for today's consumers to drop kick their current financial institution to the curb for a credit union? (Why or why not?)

Career Development
  • To gain and retain top talent, what do credit unions need to do better in today's ultra-competitive marketplace for folks looking for a quality career and wanting to make a difference?
