CUNA's new President/CEO Jim Nussle, who was also an eight-term, Iowa Republican congressman and director of the White House Office of Management and Budget for President George W. Bush, joins us on CUbroadcast to chat about his goals, plans, and issues he'd like to tackle right away.
In addition, Nussle nearly made me fall out of my chair when he stated that he was initially a "banker guy." But over the years, as he worked more and more closely with credit unions, his position obviously changed -- now leading one of our industry's largest associations. At the same time, however, he still wants to work with bankers on issues that adversely affect both industries. A very interesting take on this, indeed. He also discusses the credit union industry's growth over the last couple of years, recently exceeding the 100 million member mark. This milestone is a huge achievement, but he says we have to remain focused on the individual member relationship to continue to excel. We also talk a little technology, fraud, and Newt Gingrich in the remainder of the show. So don't miss it. And many thanks to Mr. Nussle for taking time from his schedule to chat with us. Much appreciated and enjoy the show! Visit: cuna.org It's no secret that apps rule many of our lives these days -- whether it's a weather app, sleep cycle app, or a total-time-wasting game app. These apps permeate our lives. But what about credit unions? Where do they fit in this ever-present app world? Well, to get to the heart of this matter, we invited the industry's app king, Brett Wooden on the program to explain to us why these programs are so vital to the success of today's credit unions. Brett, who is Cy-Fair Federal Credit Union's SVP of Marketing and Innovation and has his own app consulting firm (Wooden Consulting LLC), is well-known in the industry for adopting and executing the latest technologies (hardware and software) to benefit credit unions place in today's marketplace. In this chat, we discuss what types of apps are effective for credit unions, what resources are out there for CUs to develop apps, and success stories of CUs today using all sorts of apps. We also talk about how Cy-Fair is using them and its success. Check it out -- and we want to hear about what apps are benefiting your credit union! In part 3 of our latest Vendor Feature Series, GrooveCar President David Jacobson addresses the troubling issue of national automobile purchasing sites not working with credit unions to foster member financing. According to Jacobson, here's what happens: When a member spots a car on one of these sites and needs financing, credit unions are no where to be found as a financing option -- even when these sites show up at credit union conferences pitching their wares. Jacobson says many credit unions are unaware this practice is taking place, losing them numerous auto financing opportunities and taking their members elsewhere.
In this episode, Jacobson provides his take on the situation and what can be done about it to protect credit unions and their members from losing precious financing opportunities. Check it out and let us know if this has happened to you. Visit: www.groovecar.com We cover social media quite a bit here on CUbroadcast because I'm a believer in leveraging as many channels as you can to connect with your audience: same message, multiple channels. Social media is just the real-time spark to complement your traditional marketing activities that can turn a hum-drum campaign into a highly successful venture that keeps on giving. One credit union, for instance, has done just that -- providing other CU marketers, who may be still scratching their collective heads on how to approach this somewhat elusive channel, a practical template to mirror their success. Vantage Credit Union's Social Media Strategist Kenny DeShields joins us in this episode to explain strategies, provide examples, and divulge successes his credit union has experienced in the past year. Some of the things he is doing, you'll slap yourself on the back of your head and say, "Why didn't I think of that?" So sit back, enjoy, and take notes in this info-packed episode from the CU perspective -- on what works! Visit: vcu.com Short on time? Watch the trailer below... It's no secret that many credit unions are still reluctant to dive in the deep end of the social media pool. Most are quite content wading in the shallow end with an occasional tweet and a post about a new branch opening, adjusted hours, or super low rates. These posts are fine, but, as many savvy marketers know, it doesn't cut it in the world of social media. Enter the dynamic duo from CUNA Mutual Group, Michael Ogden and Holly Fearing. Michael and Holly are renowned throughout the industry as the current "go-to" social media mavens. Armed with their expertise, they have created The Social Build -- a venture aiming to show the power of social media via scheduled Google Hangouts, discussing the latest credit union issues. Each event is powered by Google+, Facebook, YouTube, Twitter, and more -- again, displaying to credit unions how effective social media can be. In this chat, we discuss how they came up with the idea, how The Social Build works, and where it's headed. Many thanks to Michael and Holly for taking time from their busy schedule to talk about their proactive project. Enjoy! Visit: cunamutual.com The Social Build Short on time?
